What Does Rotary Do?
Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision. For more than 110 years, Rotary's people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects. From literacy and peace to water and health, we are always working to better our world, and we stay committed to the end.

Members of Douglas Rotary making a donation to Rotary District Governor Sean Fitzgerald in aid of recent Turkish / Syria emergency appeal
Turkey and Syria were struck by a devastating earthquake on 6 February that has killed tens of thousands of people, destroyed thousands of homes and other structures, and left people across the region without shelter in bitterly cold winter weather.
Donations help clubs and districts provide aid and support rebuilding efforts where the need is greatest. The funds are distributed to affected communities through disaster response grants.

Douglas Rotary Quiz night in aid of the Rainbow Club Cork which took place in the South County in October 2022
The Rainbow Club is a lifeline to families, children, young teens and adults living with Autism. We support their needs in coping with the world and challenges they face on a daily basis.
Our aim is to help, support and teach people about Autism, how to live every day with it, and the challenges it brings to the child and family. We understand what’s needed to cope with the diagnoses and how to get support from each other. We teach children and young people to communicate, make new friends, be part of a group, learn new skills, and how to be themselves, proudly accepting Autism, and finding their own place in the world.

Douglas Rotary Club Tree of Remembrance at Douglas Court Shopping Centre 2022
The Rotary Club of Douglas had a very busy run up to the Christmas period. They held a Remembrance Tree in Douglas Court Shopping Centre in aid of Marymount Hospice where a considerable sum was raised. The Rotarians were assisted by various volunteers to man the tree and it was a big hit with the public as it gave them an opportunity to remember their loved ones. A huge thank you to all who either helped or contributed.

Give a Bike change a life – donate your much-loved unwanted bike to the Rotary Bikes Africa Project.
This project was launched by The Cork Rotary Clubs and is supported by Cork City Council and the Waste Enforcement Regional Lead Authority.
A drop off container has been placed at the exit from the Kinsale Civic Amenity Site, part of Tramore Valley Park, South Link Road. This is to facilitate anyone who would like to donate their unwanted bike.
The bikes need to be in reasonable condition, moderate repairs accepted, also they need to be sturdy, no kiddies or racing bikes accepted. The bikes need to withstand rough terrain, a 24” diameter wheel size is recommended. These bikes are transported by the army to a number of prisons whereby they are refurbished. They are then shipped to the Gambia in Africa and distributed to school going children, these bikes transform their daily lives and are often the difference between them getting an education or not.
Old bikes give new lives to families in Africa. Unused bike in your garage could be life changing for a student in the Gambia. It’s a win-win situation, a win for the environment, a win for the children in Africa. Mary Long, of Douglas Rotary Club says ‘ this is an amazing project and we are really appreciative of the support from Cork City Council when we see the difference it makes to the families in the Gambia. ‘Please donate your unwanted bike today’.
